Football has a long history in Kurri Kurri, with the first soccer club formed in March 1904 on the vacant land opposite the Empire Hotel in Railway Street, Kurri Kurri. The club The first games were held on the open ground next to the Drill Hall in Lang Street. It was a great central location but the playing surface was poor and the ground had streets close to it on three sides.
The Drill Hall ground can still be seen in the centre of this 1943 aerial photograh.
